Rumors and pictures have surfaced of a new Tungsten XX that is similar to the Tungsten T5, but FINALLY has both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in a fairly small form-factor!
This has got to be the most exciting Palm-related rumor we've heard in a long time! Don't get us wrong, the Treo 650, Tungsten T5, and LifeDrive are all great products and each of them has introduced refereshing, new innovation. However, since the days of Sony's TH55, we have been disappointed that palmOne has not valued Wi-Fi enough to create a small(ish) form factor with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and a large screen.
Back in April 2005, there was briefly a rumor that the new palmOne LifeDrive would be called the Tungsten X. This rumor, however, only lasted a couple of weeks before the LifeDrive name was officially confirmed. It is now apparent that someone had criss-crossed a couple of pieces of leaked information. See our article, Recent Rumors of Zire 73, Tungsten E2, and new LifeDrive (3/28/05) for more details.
There are not many details in the new rumors about the Tungsten XX. In fact, whether it will be called the Tungsten X or Tungsten XX is not confirmed, but the leaked pictures clearly show the XX label in the upper right corner.
Here are the rumored specs so far:
- Palm OS 5.4.9
- 312 MHz processor
- 320 x 480 pixel display
- Bluetooth 1.2
- Built-in 802.11b
- SDIO expansion card slot
The form-factor is clearly reminiscent of the Tungsten T5. From the pictures, it looks to be very similar in size, shape, and button layout. The fourth button, though, looks like it launches the web browser rather than the Files application.
It is unknown as to whether the Tungsten XX will have a large, internal flash drive the Tungsten T5, though. However, palmOne's trend is obviously toward using non-volatile flash memory as opposed to conventional volatile RAM as evidenced in the Treo 650 and Tungsten E2. So its likely that the Tungsten XX would use this same memory model, but we'll have to wait to see what capacity it will have.
Thanks to Engadget for the pictures and information about this exciting new rumored palmOne PDA.
