ACCESS Linux 3GSM World Congress Announcements

ACCESS made a number of announcements at the 3GSM conference last week. They have demonstrated ALP on the TI OMAP processor and Marvell's processor; they launched a Global Partner Program to accelerate the growth of Mobile Linux; they released their ALP PDK and SDK to licensees and developers; and they launched Digital Life, a number of products and technologies that enable device manufacturers, operators, and application software companies to develop, distribute, and enhance a wide variety of mobile phones and converged devices.

ACCESS Renames Palm OS 5 as Cobalt

ACCESS CO., LTD., has debuted the new ACCESS Powered® logo and announced it is renaming Palm OS® to Garnet™ OS. The new ACCESS Powered™ logo replaces the Palm Powered™ logo and is now used with products from both ACCESS and PalmSource, Inc. (now known as ACCESS Systems Americas, Inc.).

ACCESS Releases Hiker Application Framework™ to Open Source Community

ACCESS has released another component of the ACCESS Linux Platform (ALP) to the open source community. The Hiker Application Framework provides a set of services to install and manage applicaitons securely. It also provides the ability to integrate communication between applications, such as music, messaging, etc.

Palm, Inc. Buys Perpetual Palm OS Garnet License

ACCESS has entered an agreement with Palm, Inc. for a perpetual license for the Palm OS Garnet source code. The license lets them modify the code base for use in its products. This is a wise move for Palm, Inc. if they plan to carry on with the Palm OS into the forseeable future. Update: Quotes from Palm, Inc. press release added.

Janam Technologies and ACCESS Announce Palm OS Licensing Agreement

Symbol Technologies, recently purchased by Motorola, has officially scrapped the Palm OS in favor of Windows Mobile. At the same time, startup company Janam Technologies has announced a five-year licensing agreement for Palm OS. They expect to have industrial handhelds rolled out by the end of this year.

Symbol, recently purchased by Motorola, has officially ended its licensing agreement for the Palm OS. Moving forward, they will be focusing on the Windows Mobile platform exclusively.
