Palm's Secret Business Unit Will Be Revealed Next Year

Back in August of 2005, Jeff Hawkins hinted at a secret business unit at Palm that no one knows about. That business unit has been focused on a new class of mobile computing device that is neither a PDA or a smartphone. Michael Mace recently spoke with Ed Colligan at Palm and he confirmed that this secret project would be revealed next year in 2007.

Qimonda Introduces 183 MHz DDR Memory For Handheld Devices

Just a quick note from the upcoming technology section, Qimonda has announced availability of new, faster 183 MHz RAM for mobile devices. Current speeds are typically 133 MHz. It is not yet known exactly what smartphones and PDA's these new faster chips could end up in.

NEC Announces System-On-Glass LCD Displays

PDA Sales Slow and Smartphone Growth Less Than Expected

A new Gartner report says that PDA sales have slowed and smartphone sales have not been growing as quickly as expected. The report also states that people aren't actually using the advanced features of their smartphones at all!

Intel Unveils NOR Flash Memory Products for Low-Cost Handhelds

Intel Corp., the world’s largest supplier of x86 microprocessors, announced Thursday its new NOR flash memory products that are designed for emerging low-cost cell phone segment. The company believes that low-cost mobile phones will catalyze huge demand for its NOR flash memory. Their memory comes in sizes from 32 MB to 256 MB with optional RAM for multimedia smartphones.

In-Stat Finds Smartphones More Valuable Than Laptops and PDA's

Research firm In-Stat has published a study on converged devices that compares smartphones to laptops and PDA's in business markets. The study found that business users rate their smartphones as more valuable, but they do not feel that they are direct replacements for laptops or PDA's.

Watch Entourage and other HBO Shows on your Cingular Phone

HBO Mobile and Cingular Wireless have extended "Entourage" to wireless phones. They've added  full-length episodes from the first season of "Entourage," plus episodes from "Sex and the City," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," and "Dane Cook's Tourgasm".
